However,Ialsoknowtherearealotofpeoplewhohavemismanagedtheirmoney.Theyhavecablewhentheyshouldn’t.Theyeatout—alot.They’vemadethechoicetosendtheirchildrentocollegesatanyprice—meaningthey’vereliedonalotofstudentloansthatwilltakedecadestopayoff.Theycouldn’tfathomsendingtheirchildrentocommunitycollegefirsttocutthecostofahighereducation.

They’vetakencruisesorvacationstotheCaribbeanwhenthatmoneyshouldhavebeensaved.Theirclosetsarefullofclothes,pursesandshoesfromshoppingsprees.Themallistheirrefuge.Theirchildrenhavehadlavishbirthdaypartiesfitforaprinceorprincess.Theirhomeslooklikemuseums.Thetruthistheydohavetheabilitytosavemore,yetthey’veturnedtheirwantsintoneedsandthat’swhytheycan’tmissasinglepaycheck.

I’veworkedwithpeoplewhosetotalmonthlycreditcarddebtisalmostasmuchastheirrent.Theycouldhavedonewithoutmuchofthestufftheyboughtoncredit.Theyhavemonthlycarpaymentsforluxurycarsthathavemademegasp.(Whohasan$800or$1,000carpaymentandnoemergencyfund?That’smadness!)
