KathrinvonRechenberg，德国慕尼黑籍设计师，从2000年起定居中国北京至今。

Kathrin的先生名叫张向云，湖北襄阳人，目前他们育有三个孩子，分别是18岁、17岁和13岁。

本文两个关键词：Kathrin和香云纱。

中国“寻香旅”

年轻时张向云为了熟练掌握精酿啤酒要领已经学会了巴伐利亚口味的德语。

2000年他只身从武汉来到北京学法语，希望可以酿造出更好喝的葡萄酒。

一次与同样在京的奥地利籍德语老师邀约郊游中，张向云认识了从巴黎辗转多次台湾又来到北京、寻找一种名叫“香云纱”的中国传统植物染料工艺面料的德国人Kathrin。

操着一口巴伐利亚味道德语的张向云让Kathrin在他乡一见如故。

最早，Kathrin选择在巴黎的法国高级时装品牌JacquesFath里、从一名学徒开始学习女装制作。

此后她又以服装设计师及制作师学位年度第一名的成绩毕业于久负盛名的巴黎高级时装工会设计学校，先后受聘于ChristianDior、Chanel、ChristianLacroix、Jean-LouisScherrer、EmanuelleKhan等高级时装工作室。

正是在这些地方的宝贵经验积累，让Kathrin真正领会了如何做好一件漂亮的成衣。

Kathrin的祖父是一位石雕艺术家、父亲是一位陶艺雕塑家，他们鼓励Kathrin从小追寻内心的笃定，并让她有勇气最终成立自己的同名高级时装定制品牌Rechenberg。

1995年在台湾，当地的时装设计师SophieHong向Kathrin展示了距今六百多年、中国南方一种古老的手工织造和染整制作的植物染色面料“香云纱”。

它是世界纺织品中唯一用纯植物染料染色的丝绸面料，俗称茛绸、云纱，是一种用广东特色植物薯莨的汁水对桑蚕丝织物涂层、再用珠三角地区特有的含矿河涌塘泥覆盖、经日晒加工而成的一种昂贵的纱绸制品。

由于穿着走路会“沙沙”作响，所以最初叫“响云纱”，后人以谐音叫作“香云纱”。

作为地道中国人，张向云在闲暇之余开始为Kathrin的“寻香旅”出谋划策，他甚至陪伴Kathrin去到香云纱的起源地广东顺德。

在这程“闻香识侣人”的故事中，张向云和Kathrin自然而然成为了彼此人生故事里的男女主人翁。

张向云也被Kathrin诚挚捍卫手工事业而感动，自愿放弃精酿事业、与Kathrin一道将“寻香旅”进行到底。

这种真丝面料在漫长的时间里汲取了纯天然水源，融合了土地、阳光和季节的沉淀，最终成为了具有独特生命力、可以呼吸的面料。

2008年，香云纱染整技艺才被列入国家级非物质文化遗产。而早在2000年，Kathrin便对这样古老的中国技艺着迷不已。

在广东，她亲自参与香云纱的染色和洗晒，看着黎明前夕的阳光映射在薯莨汁液中的单宁酸浸泡的丝绸纤维上、在富含铁元素的河泥覆盖下渐渐变成黑色，反面变成褐红色。再多天反复浸染、静置几年以后，“香云纱”才可以作为布料使用。

这样的等待在Kathrin看来是极其神圣的。

这也让Kathrin更加坚信香云纱的舒适、高雅、名贵和环保一定使它能够焕发出引领时尚的崇高魅力。

“当下的快节奏生活缺少了对大自然哺育我们的敬畏与尊重。时装行业中大量破坏自然、滥用廉价劳动、破坏当地传统手工艺制造的发展方向是相当错误的。我们应当放慢脚步，用心去欣赏简单事物中散发的朴素美好。”Kathrin如是说。

品牌Rechenberg以香云纱面料为主，Kathrin创新地运用中国的传统中药植物进行面料染色，比如最近她用紫草和葛兰染出了精美的紫罗兰色。

同时她还擅长使用中国古老的绞缬染色法赋予面料丰富隽永的色彩与独特的肌理。

Kathrin认为，传统的手工技艺才是真正的人类奢侈品。

她主张时装设计师（如果他们不是原产地设计师）通过学习染色、编织和刺绣技术等技艺去尊重自然和历史产物，但不是生搬硬套、直接滥用这些他们自己没有创造出来的传统图案。

她说，例如一些设计师会在织物上印上传统的刺绣图案，然后进行批量生产，这是个很坏的主意。

“传统手工技艺对于当地人有着特殊意义。而现代时装设计师们应该着眼于通过研究传统来创新现代设计。”

作为一名时装设计师，她有义务去引导消费者们买得少一点，但要买得好一点。

从业几十年里，她深谙传统手工艺的制作要领并始终以最高的工艺标准制作可持续并且时尚的成衣。

在Kathrin看来：“值得尊敬的是工匠，而不是时装设计师。”

目前，Rechenberg拥有12位工作伙伴，其中大多数工匠都与Kathrin合作了15年以上。

Kathrin将首家高级成衣店和工作室选址在北京前门东区西兴隆街的胡同里，这里历史悠久，明清时期的使馆群坐落在侧。“这样即使生活在超级现代化的首都北京，我也能感受到与数百年历史的联系。”

Kathrin的作品给人一种“禅”的感觉，实则她并没有刻意表现东方元素。

“就像所有真实的事情都是自然发生的。出于对自然和人类的爱和尊重，一个人穿上它，就能感受到它与自然的统一。”

二十年过去，张向云对Kathrin依然评价很高：

“Kathrin就像她所创立的同名品牌Rechenberg所吸引的女性顾客们一样，她们在工作上独立又出众，回归家庭又可以恰如其分地融合，比如Kathrin走下设计台、回到家里不再坚持己见，10多年里她坚持每周为孩子们下厨两到三次、积极参与家庭生活。’让看不见的爱转换成看得见的身边信物’也是Rechenberg一直以来希望向大众传达的’为自己’的最好诠释。”

IwasfirstintroducedtoTea-silkbytheTaiwanesefashiondesignerSophieHong(HongLiFen)in1995.IworkedwithherinTaiwanseveraltimesandgainedmoreexperienceinvariousHauteCouturehousessuchasJean-LouisScherrer,ChristianDior,ChristianLacroixandChanelduringseveralyears.ThereweretheseplaceswhereIhadlearnedwhatmakesatrulybeautifulgarment.Theseexperiencescombinedwithhavinggrownupinafamilywheremygrandfatherwasastonesculptorartistandmyfatherwasaceramicsculptorartist,theygavemethecouragetostartmybrandwhereIcoulddoeverythingasitseemsjustrighttome.

Thesilkfabricisdyed30-40timeswiththejuiceoftheShuliangroot(DioscoreaCirrhosa)aftereachdyeingprocess,laidflatintheopenairtodryinthesunshine.Itiscoveredwithironrichriversiltaftertherepeateddyeingtofixthecolour.That'showitgetsitstypicaldoublefacedcolouring.

ItwasnevermygoaltomakeaprofessionalcareerinChina,ifthat’syourquestion.MypersonalcareerwithimprovingmyskillsandbeingabletomakeastatementinsocietywithwhatIamdoingismuchmoreimportanttome.

IhopethatIamagoodexampleinChinaandinternationallyincombiningnaturaldyedmaterials,innovativeandtimelessdesignsandexquisitecraftsmanshipandethicalworkingmethodsasthenewstandard.Ihopemanydesignersarefollowing.

4.What’stheplanofyourhandicraftdesignfuture?

AsIamconvincedthatthefutureisinthehandmade.Iwillcontinuetomakesustainable,stylishbuttimelessclothingwiththehigheststandardofcraftsmanship.Ithinkit'sadesigner’sresponsibilitytoguidetheclientsandfashioncommunitiesinbuyingandwearingresponsiblefashion.That'swhyIwillsticktohandmadeclothesandneverdomassproduction,evenifitstemptingtosavecostsoneachpiece.ButIamconvincedthatthedirectionthecommonfashionindustrytookinrecentyearsiswrong.Itisdamagingthenature,abusinglowcostlabouranddestroyinglocalhandicraftsandmanufacturings.

Thepresentlifeismissingrespecttowardsthosewhoareworkingwiththeirhandsandwhatnaturehasgivenus.Weneedtorelearntoappreciatethebeautyinsimplethingsandtoslowdown.Handcraftisthenewluxury.Weshouldbuylessbutbetter.

5.What’sthekeypointtobeahandicraftandfashiondesigner?

Asafashiondesigner,oneshouldbetrainedinmakingclothinghimself/herselfandunderstandthehandcraftskills.Ifonedoesn’tappreciateandunderstandthetechniquesofthemakinganddoesn’tknowhowlaboriouseachstepishemightnotonlyproducemeaninglessdesign,butalsowasteresources.Inmyeyes,whatdeservedtoberespectedisartisan,notthefashiondesigner.

6.AsaYunnanpeople,thedistinctinheritanceandencounterofmountainsandcitiesmademehasthestrongsenseofdistance.Couldyougivemesomesuggestionsthathowtomakeurbanpeopleacceptsuchhandicraftswithlocalflavourdesign?Howtoconnectbetweenmodernfashiondesignandancientcrafts?

Idon'tknowifIunderstandwell.

FormypartIwouldneverusepartsoftraditionaldesignslikeembroidery,coloursorweaving.Becausetheyhavetheirspecificmeaningtothepeoplewhoarewearingit.

Idon'tthinkfashiondesigners(iftheyarenotdesignersinsidethelocalcommunity)shouldbeallowedtoabusethesetraditionalpatternswhichtheydidn'tcreatethemselves.Whatfashiondesignersshouldbeencouragedtodoistostudyartisanaltechniquestocreatemoderndesigns.

(Example:Somedesignerswouldprinttraditionalembroiderypatternsonfabricsanddomassproduction.It’saverybadidea.Insteadtheyshouldlearnthetraditionaldyeingandembroiderytechniquesandlearntherespecttowardsnatureandhumanworkwhichonecanfeelineachtraditionalhandcraftedpiece.Intheenditisnottheappearancewhichcounts,butwhat’sbehind.)
